AC Milan, the "Rossoneri," will host Ferencváros at the San Siro in a key match of the fourth round of the 2026/27 UEFA Europa League. Amorim stated that his team's biggest problem is their inability to consistently dominate their opponents during matches.
In the last round of the Europa League, AC Milan lost 0-3 to Premier League club Bournemouth after conceding a goal and having their goalkeeper Maignan shown a red card.
However, in the earlier Serie A derby, AC Milan defeated their city rivals Inter Milan 3-1 after goals from Pulisic, Rabiot and Diego Moreira.
AC Milan coach Amorim said, "Everyone is always asking when we will reach our peak. Even if we win every game, we will never feel that we have reached our peak. We must continue to improve."
“We’ve developed our own style, which is to control the game. Sometimes we can do it, sometimes we can’t. But in most games, we try to stay proactive. Sometimes we adjust our formation or change our defensive approach. The core of our style is to stay proactive and dominate the game.”
Amorim pointed out, "It's clear that we lack the ability to press our opponents into the penalty area and maintain possession there to create more chances, which is our biggest problem right now. We need to be consistent in individual games and in more games, and I think we are making progress in that regard. We are able to perform better over longer periods and have improved our control of the game."
“But if you look at the team as a whole, you’ll see we still have a lot of work to do. Especially in the attacking third, we’re not consistently getting the ball into that area. We need time to work on that, and I also have to help the players play better in those situations.”
In addition, Amorim said, "We controlled the game very well in the derby because we had more possession. It's not that we were always thinking about how to defend; we defended by having possession, which also helped us think more clearly when we lost possession."
“I think we did a better job with the details. The distance between us and our teammates was reduced by one meter instead of two. Compared to the game against Bologna, we improved in all these details. That’s how I felt during the game.”
Amorim also stated, "We can't let the opponent cross the ball easily, because that would turn it into a stalemate. Koni de Winter played brilliantly in the derby, but if the opponent passes the ball to Thuram again, it becomes almost impossible to defend against. So, this may be related to the way we sometimes view our opponents, and that's where we need to change our mindset."
“We defended well by controlling possession, and we were also more aggressive off the ball because we knew that the opponent could create a threat if there were crosses like Dimarco’s. We must do the same against Ferencváros.”
